Acclaimed photographer Jim Stephens is one of our dearest friends. During his early career as a photojournalist living and working in East Africa, Jim covered the Somali and Sudanese civil wars. He has since returned to England and continues to photograph abroad as well as in the UK. He has been widely published, and recently was finalist in the prestigious Travel Photographer of the Year, 2007.
Works on show at Golborne Place are from an ongoing project entitled Festivals, which focuses on all types of gatherings and celebrations from the four corners of the earth – be they religious, spiritual or hedonistic. No matter how remote or accessible these festivals are, the passion from the participators is the same everywhere, and capturing this elation is an integral part of Jim’s pictures.
